La Belle-Iloise is perhaps the best-known and most colourful manufacturer of canned fish and soups in the world! With classic recipes and creative combinations of sardines, tuna and mackerel, the family-run company has secured a firm place in the hearts and on the plates of many gourmets.
Founded in 1932 by Georges Hilliet near the Breton port town of Quiberon, the company is now in its third generation. All products are the result of meticulous craftsmanship, even though a total of 800 employees work in the factory during the peak sardine season.

Manufacturer's address: Conserverie la Belle-Iloise, ZA Plein Ouest, 56 170 Quiberon, FRANCE

Even the ancient Romans prized sardines and ate them salted, marinated, or smoked. To this day, the sardine—when quality and production methods are right—remains a premium product.

For the sheer pleasure of it, you should by no means miss out on the many other wonderful creations that showcase the incomparably rich range of flavors available in canned sardines: sardines in a fruity sauce, in white wine, in butter, with water and lemon… Try them!

The sardine is still a focal point for many port cities in Brittany, as well as in Spain and Portugal. It is not considered an endangered species.
