This highly complex white wine comes from a 120-year-old vineyard in Douro Superior, on granite soil, 800 meters above sea level, combining so many aromas: On a very mineral base (flint and damp stone) sit juicy, fruity notes of dried apricot, pineapple and ripe citrus fruits. Lively, very full-bodied and supple, yet light and fresh.
A “serious” wine that leaves a long finish with subtle nuances of bitter citrus peel.
This wine was fermented spontaneously and without temperature control in huge (700-liter) vats, where it aged on the lees for 10 months. It is a so-called “field blend” of at least 15 autochthonous Portuguese grape varieties such as Folgazão, Dona Branca, Verdelho, Siria, Malvasia, Rabigato and many others.
It was bottled unfiltered and unstabilized, and like all wines by Márcio Lopes, it is as natural as possible, because all of Márcio’s wines share a common denominator: minimal intervention both in the vineyard and in the cellar.
This wine has a very intense citrus aroma, fresh notes and plenty of minerality. Very harmonious on the palate with a very long, persistent body and endless freshness.
Serving suggestion: Red meat and spicier dishes. Ideal temperature: 12ºC.
Can be enjoyed immediately or over the next 10 to 20 years, provided it is stored in a cool, dry and dark place.
The name of this wine “Permitido” (German: allowed) comes from the fact that the grapes come from the hills between 650 and 800 meters above sea level, where you can find tranquility and breathe pure air, and where everyone is allowed to dream, live and feel.
Márcio Lopes: The Rising Star in Vinho Verde.
Márcio Lopes was born in Porto in 1983 and spent many summer holidays with his grandparents in the Porto hinterland, where they grew corn and wheat and also produced wine. At the age of 6, his grandmother put him in a lagar (a traditional Portuguese granite vat used for winemaking) so that he could stomp the grapes in it with his feet, as is still traditionally done today. This was the first of many, many wines that young Márcio has produced since then. The rest is history …

Already a year before graduating in agricultural engineering in 2006, Márcio began working with the famous winemaker Anselmo Mendes in Melgaço. In 2008, he went to Australia, where he was responsible for two vintages in Rutherglen and Tasmania. In 2010, he started his own project “Pequenos Rebentos” (Portuguese for “little shoots”) in the Minho region, the home of Vinhos Verdes.
