Conserveira “Pinhais” is a family-owned business founded in 1920 in the small fishing village of Matosinhos near Porto. Today, almost 100 years later, the company is still family-owned under the leadership of Dr. Antonio Pinhal and is one of the country’s most renowned canned fish producers.
True to the company motto “Quality over quantity,” Pinhais & Co. Ltd. still uses traditional methods, with very little done by machines and most of the work carried out by hand—a rarity today. The olive oil is of very high quality because the Pinhais family owns its own olive grove in Trás-os-Montes.

Even the ancient Romans prized sardines and ate them salted, marinated, or smoked. To this day, the sardine—when quality and preparation are right—remains a premium product.

For the sheer pleasure of it, you should by no means miss out on the many other wonderful creations that showcase the incomparably rich range of flavors available in canned sardines: sardines in a fruity sauce, in white wine, in butter, with water and lemon… Give them a try!
