Artisanal vinification with the utmost care

The foundation of this wine is strict hand-harvesting, during which only the ripest and healthiest grapes are selected directly in the vineyard. In the cellar, the grapes are 100% destemmed before fermentation begins completely spontaneously and without the addition of cultured yeasts in traditional fermentation vats (dornas). Careful cap punch-down (pigeage) ensures a gentle, careful extraction of color, texture, and aromatics.

The Castelão is then aged for ten months in used French oak barrels – long enough to develop depth and structure without overpowering the natural fruit.

Uncompromising naturalness – the Desviso way

Like all wines from Vinhos Desviso, the Castelão 2023 is also bottled without any fining, filtration, or artificial stabilization. The result is an honest, lively, and expressive red wine full of character and soul.
