The modified Sandvik stainless steel 12C27 was adjusted for Opinel and is known for its sharpness and easy maintenance. The stainless steel underwent a heat treatment called martensite, giving it a very long lifespan. The carbon content is at least 0.40%, achieving very satisfactory sharpness while preventing corrosion sensitivity. Blade hardness 57-59 HRC.
