This is no modern product. This is a dish with history.
Cotriade – that is the dish of the fishermen, which they once prepared right on the boat, for the whole crew, with what the sea yielded that day: fresh fish, onions, potatoes. First the soup, then the fish meat with bread. Simple. Honest. Filling.
Pointe de Penmarc'h keeps this tradition alive. Into the 400-gram can go fresh fish landed directly in the Breton ports – conger eel, mackerel, along with cockles and vegetables: carrots, green beans, potatoes, onions, turnips, a touch of tomato, saffron, fennel.
A soup that smells like the harbor, like the coast, like a Sunday with a Breton family.
You heat it up over a low flame – slowly, as it should be – and serve it with grated Gruyère, seaweed croutons, and a good sauce rouille. Done is a complete meal, that warms and fills you up, without being complicated. Just like the best dishes are.
