Fresh sardines in extra virgin olive oil and 3 preserved Kashmiri and Bird's Eye chilies. Kashmiri chili is related to the well-known jalapeño and has a heat level of 6–8 out of 10. Bird's Eye chili is even hotter, with a heat level of 10!
A recipe for lovers of particularly spicy dishes ...!

Warning: The chilies may lose some of their flavor when the can is sterilized, as they are sensitive to heat. This means that one may be less spicy than another, while another might make you sweat.

By adding 3 chilies, La Quiberonnaise tries to guarantee a fairly consistent taste experience.

As this is not always possible with a natural product, the figure of the Joker adorns the can.

The illustration on the can is by the French caricaturist Frank Margerin, who is best known in Germany for the comic character Lucien and the series "Die Vorstadtgang".

Like good wine, sardines also mature over time and get better the longer they are stored. That is why the year of catch is noted on many cans, and they are referred to as "vintage sardines". We currently have the vintages from 2010 to 2014 on offer. The sardines taste best when the oil has thoroughly penetrated them from all sides. We recommend turning the can every 6 months and opening it after at least one year. You will clearly taste the difference: the more mature sardines are significantly more tender and flavorful and practically melt in your mouth. Younger sardines simply have more bite, the flesh is much firmer and has not yet absorbed as much oil.
